Mr. LIU Specializes in intellectual property law and competition law, with particular expertise in cross-border legal services.
As a patent attorney, he has handled over 1,500 domestic and foreign patent and trademark prosecution, among which three patents were awarded the title of China Patent Gold Award, which is the highest honor given to patents by the Chinese government.
As an intellectual property lawyer, he has represented hundreds of IP-related cases, many of which involved international parties, including numerous Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft (USA), Otis, 3M, Dyson, NEC, Novartis, Daicel, Samsung, Foxconn, OKI, Tencent, and Comba. His representative cases include:
· Represented Microsoft in its earliest software copyright infringement lawsuits in China against some well-known domestic computer manufacturers.
Represented Foxconn in more than 30 patent infringement disputes, most of which resulted in favorable outcomes.
· Represented Hosokawa (Japan) in more than 10 patent infringement cases, most of which were successfully resolved.
· Represented Zalman (South Korea) in over 30 patent infringement cases, all of which were won, including securing the first pre-trial injunction for patent infringement in Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court.
· Represented Dyson (UK) in more than 100 patent enforcement actions covering various types of patents (inventions, utility models, and designs) across multiple jurisdictions, including courts, local IP bureaus, customs, and trade fairs.
· Represented Daicel (Japan) in a process patent infringement case against Celanese Corporation, involving complex investigation and evidence preservation procedures, with a claim damage of RMB 180 million.
· Represented Comba Telecom in a series of global patent disputes with Andrew Corporation (USA), involving litigation in China, the US, and Brazil. One of these cases was selected as one of the "Top Ten Patent Reexamination and Invalidity Cases in China in 2009," ;
· Represented Otis Elevator (USA) in a patent dispute with Schindler (Switzerland), clarifying the legal boundaries between product manufacturers and users regarding liability.
Represented numerous international brands (including Dyson, Breville, NIKE, Eichholtz) at international trade shows—especially the Canton Fair—for over 15 years, achieving excellent results.
· Served as a Chinese legal expert in U.S. IP and antitrust litigation, providing expert opinions and participating in deposition proceedings.
· Represented Novartis in a patent invalidation dispute with GSK, collaborating with lawyers from multiple countries to successfully invalidate the disputed patent, helping the client reduce global patent infringement risks.
· Participated in a series of patent infringement litigations between Samsung (South Korea) and Huawei, including related antitrust matters.
· Represented a domestic client in a shared mobility patent infringement case involving Didi Chuxing, covering both patent invalidation and infringement litigation procedures.
· Represented OKI (Japan) in a series of patent ownership, invalidation, and infringement disputes, including an international arbitration case that obtained over RMB 3 billion in compensation.
· Acted as long-term legal counsel for multiple clients, guiding, coordinating, and managing their responses to transnational IP and trade disputes, including patent infringement litigation and Section 337 investigations.
· Represented clients in multiple trademark infringement and unfair competition disputes, some spanning over a decade.
As an antitrust lawyer, he has handled many cases with great influence, including
· Abuse of dominant market position cases in the automotive industry
· Standard essential patent cases in the communications industry
· Cross border antitrust disputes in the power battery industry
· Administrative enforcement cases of anti-monopoly
· Compliance advice on antitrust law to numerous enterprises
