CHENG Yongshun

Areas of Practice

Mr. Cheng has been actively involved in judicial protection of intellectual property since January 1985. He was among the first few judges in China who heard intellectual property cases and heard a large number of significant cases. He was selected as one of IP’s 50 most important figures by Managing Intellectual Property (July/August 2003).

Working Experience

Mr. Cheng started his judicial career in 1982 when he joined Beijing High People’s Court as an associate judge. He then became a judge of the Commercial Tribunal, Deputy Head of the Intellectual Property Tribunal (No. 3 Civil Tribunal), before being the Head of the Industry Property Group of the Intellectual Property Division of the Supreme People’s Court of China from 1996-1998. He retired in March 2005 as a Level Three Senior Judge.
